CENTADISC-C

Numerous CENTA carbon fiber drive shafts up to 23,000kW have been successfully installed over the years. In the range up to 40 kNm, however, there is a great demand for lightweight drive shafts.

CENTA has developed the CENTADISC-C drive shaft especially for this range. These intermediate shafts are made of composite (glass or carbon fiber) which are connected at the ends with torsionally rigid, but axial and angular flexible plastic elements. This creates maximum flexibility for large spans despite the (torsional) stiffness of the shafts.

For more than 6 years, CENTA has achieved groundbreaking results by using custom-made torsion-elastic composite drive shafts. Based on its broad knowledge and proven experience, CENTA can now also supply a complete series of standardized drive shafts for electric motors.

Application

Application areas can be found in the increasingly emerging electrically powered propulsion installations and other drives, including the offshore industry.

  • between engine and transmission
  • or water jet (in combination with a torsion-resistant coupling)
  • and between the gearbox and the water jet
  • cooling tower drives
  • water pumps

Characteristics

  • High rotational speeds, with no intermediate bearings required.
  • Large spans possible with lengths of up to approximately six meters.
  • Low weight due to the use of composite combined with plastic elements. If possible, no steel parts used.
  • Maintenance and corrosion free.
  • Simple (dis)assembly.
Exact alignment of the shafts is not necessary due to the great flexibility of the intermediate shaft.
  • Long lifespan.
  • Shape-retaining due to the materials used, even with temperature changes.
  • Approved by various class societies.

CENTADISC-M

EXTREMELY LIGHT, FLEXIBLE AXIS

The CENTADISC is derived from the patented membrane design of the CENTAX series M, and is suitable for all possible forms of compensation for misalignment. The intermediate shaft can be made of steel or lightweight composite (carbon fibre) in lengths up to 12 meters. Any desired shaft length can be achieved using additional bearings and diaphragms.

Application

  • ship drives; especially between gearbox and water-jet for fast ships
  • pump drives
  • cooling towers
  • printing machines
  • paper mills
  • general mechanical engineering

Characteristics

  • High axial and angular flexibility. The tandem diaphragm system is radially rigid. However, due to the cardan action of this system, the intermediate shaft is radially elastic because all radial alignment differences are converted into an angular alignment difference.
  • The total allowable radial displacement depends on the length between the diaphragms and the admissible angular alignment difference per diaphragm set.
  • Compensation of relatively large alignment differences, displacements and misalignments with low reaction forces.
  • Compact economic design, light weight, low inertia, high balancing accuracy and temperature resistant.
  • Insensitive to wear and maintenance free.
  • Easy assembly. All components can be easily assembled and disassembled without moving the connected components.
  • All components are securely connected to each other based on frictional torque transmission. The connecting pieces are radially secured, so they cannot take on a life of their own in the event of a possible diaphragm failure.
  • A spin protection is available as an option.

CENTADISC-T

CENTADISC-T – The membrane coupling with option for integrated
overload function for applications in rail drives between e-motor and

and technical data. Large insulation spans eliminate leakage or high
frequency currents. High capacity resistance and optimum protection
of the driven side are the result. This new design is is an individual
solution for customer specific unit combinations and is combined with
overload slip units within the clamping hubs.
